As we all know, plants are essential for our well-being. When it comes to indoor plants, they don’t only provide oxygen, but they also have the power to cleanse the air of mold and toxic substances.
According to a study done with domestic plants and conducted by NASA, certain plants can filter the air and remove organic compounds that evaporate better than others. They can also cleanse the area of building materials, dust, paint, etc. Here are the plants:
Aloe vera– it releases oxygen but it also absorbs carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and formaldehyde. One aloe vera plant can achieve what 9 biological air purifiers can.
Ficus– an excellent plant which is easy for maintenance since it doesn’t require too much light. It cleanses the air of formaldehyde. However, if you have small children or pets, you should avoid having it since its leaves can be poisonous.
Ivy plant– it can eliminate more than 60% of the toxins found in the air and 57% of feces particles within 6 hours after being brought in the house.
Spider plant– it has the ability for photosynthesis even under a small amount of light. It can absorb toxins from the air like styrene, carbon monoxide, gasoline, and formaldehyde. One spider plant can cleanse the air in 200 m2 of space.
Peace lilies– this plant is great for the removal of chemicals and toxins from the air. It filters formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.
According to NASA, 3 to 4 plants are enough for 80 square meter area. Since you spend most of the time in your bedroom, don’t forget to place one plant there.
