Smoker’s Lungs vs. Normal Healthy Lungs: The Difference Is Shocking!

Dear readers, did you know that, according to the CDC, tobacco is the largest preventable reason of illnesses and death in the U.S.? Believe it or not,Providr point out that on a yearly basis, this dangerous habit takes away thelives of more than 480,000 U.S. citizens and almost 10 percent of the deaths are a result of passive or secondhand smoking.

The CDC statistics information from 2016 also shows that approximately 37.8 million Americans are smokers and more than 75 percent of these smokers consume cigarettes on the daily. Even though a lot of smokers may try to put an end to this unhealthy habit, the addiction often wins and they go back to smoking.

This highly-addictive habit is not just a health concern in the U.S., but in the rest of the world too. Because of the epidemic proportions of smoking, there have been a lot of efforts worldwide to help people cease smoking easier and never go back to it.

One such effort is the video we decided to talk about in today’s article.

Healthy vs. Smoker’s Lung Comparison Video Goes Viral

As seen on Providr, Amanda Eller, a registered nurse from North Carolina who works at Mission Health (the 6th largest health system in the state) recently uploaded a shocking video. Namely, in it, we can clearly see the difference between a lung which is healthy and a lung of a cancer patient who is a daily smoker and who smoked up to a pack of cigarettes per day for a period of twenty years.

Amanda, who posted the video on her Facebook, explains the distinction between the healthy and red lungs of a person who is a non-smoker and a dark and charred-like lung of a smoker. She adds that the elasticity of the cancerous lungs is gone and when they stretch out, the recoil snaps back as there is nothing to keep them open.

As a result, they deflate very fast. She demonstrated this deflation with the help of a tube being placed into the lungs. In the healthy lungs, there was a normal inflation and deflation. This is because healthy lungs have good elasticity that keeps the lung inflated and full, even when they may not be inhaling.

Before heading out, do not forget to check out the viral video and see why you need to stay away from cigarettes as much as possible or cease smoking once and for all if you are a smoker:
