A double-blind, placebo-controlled human clinical study looked at healthy adults taking a placebo or 300 mg of Bacopa monnieri every day for 12 weeks. Bacopa significantly improved the speed of processing visual information, learning rate and memory, as compared to the placebo.
Another 12 week study looked at healthy adults and found that those taking either 300 mg or 600 mg of Bacopa each day had improved memory, attention and ability to process information, as compared to the placebo.
Bacopa monnieri has also been shown to be helpful in reducing ADHD symptoms. One study looked at 31 kids aged 6 to 12 with ADHD and found that 225 mg of Bacopa each day improved symptoms like restlessness, inattention, impulsivity and poor self-control in 85% of the children!
Because of its benefits for the brain and mind, Bacopa has also drawn interest from physicians and scientists for its possible effects on patients with Alzheimers and dementia. Bacopa is also used by many as a natural nootropic, or brain-enhancing herb.
