Garbage Enzymes
The base of this homemade DIY cleaning product is acetic acid which is obtained through the blending of unfermented fruit and veggie scraps with water and brown sugar. Their fermentation creates an eco-friendly, effective, and easily-affordable product for different cleaning purposes.
How to Make It
You will need:
A wide-mouth bottle with a lid
Half a cup of brown sugar or molasses
1 ½ cup of fruit scraps
10 cups of water
The ratio for the sugar, fruit scraps, and water should be 1:3:10.
Preparation: Put the sugar to the bottle and add the fruit scraps and water. Close the container and mark the date when you have prepared it. Now, you wait for two months so that the fermentation takes place. Make sure you shake the bottle open it on a daily basis to release the gas that is being formed due to the fermentation. After two months, strain the liquid content into a jar and use the residues as fertilizers for your garden.
Important to note:
If during the fermentation process you notice white-like growths on the enzymes, do not worry, because this yeast commonly appears. Just shake the content well and it will mix into the liquid.
How to Use Your Garbage Enzymes?
- Clean glass surfaces
Mix one part of the enzymes and three parts of water in a spray bottle and use it to shine glass surfaces like windows and doors.
- Wash your car
The above-mentioned mixture can be a great way to thoroughly clean stubborn stains on your car.
- Remove stubborn stains
Fill a cup of the mixture and apply it onto the stain. Leave it for several hours and then rinse it and then wash stained piece of clothing in the washing machine.
- Clean dirty floors
Mix one part of the enzymes and twenty parts of water and with the help of a mop, clean kitchen and bathroom surfaces and remove any stains.
- Squeaky clean dishes and laundry
Adding ¼ cup of the mixture to your dishwashing and washing machine will enhance the cleaning of the dishes and clothes. Amazing, right?
