Even though raw, organic milk has an abundance of health advantages, according to the claims of a Harvard researcher and pediatrician, conventional and skim milk and dairy are bad for our health due to the presence of artificial sweeteners. This researcher is David Ludwig, a pediatric endocrinologist who is a specialist in childhood obesity and a Ph.D. in nutrition.
He has published few studies indicating that a low-glycemic diet may be more beneficial for loss of weight in children than a low-fat one. He also mentions that there has been a lot of research on the dangerous effects of sugar-rich drinks and their association with diabetes, obesity, and inflammation. However, the one drink which continues being promoted is low-fat milk and the recommended dosage is 3 cups per day. Hence, Ludwig questions the scientific logic behind such recommendations.
Low-Fat Milk Is as Dangerous as Other Types of Milk
According to Ludwig, the USDA’s recommendations to consume low-fat milk is actually encouraging people to consume added sugar, which is against all scientific research which indicates that sugar and artificial sweeteners should be avoided. Unfortunately, the fats in low-fat milk are switched with bad sugars, thus, making them a bad diet choice. If you are concerned that you will not supply your body with sufficient amounts of calcium, you should know that there are a lot of other food sources of calcium like nuts, green leafy veggies, seeds, and beans.
Dietary Fat May actually Be Good for Us
Some types of fat like trans-fats and refined polyunsaturated fats from vegetable oils need to be avoided and there is a lot of scientific research backing up such claims. Nonetheless, despite being depreciated for decades, according to a 2010 analysis, there is no conclusive data that saturated fat leads to higher chance of coronary heart or cardiovascular illness.
What’s more, full-fat dairy, when consumed in its purest form, i.e. raw and organic and originating from grass-fed cows, can better the health of the heart, regulate diabetes, enhance the absorption of vitamins, reduce the chance of bowel cancer, and encourage loss of weight, as research suggests. But, this is not the case with conventional dairy which may contain unorthodox ingredients like antibiotics, painkillers, and many more.
