Beauty ads often seem condeescendingly ideal and nobody enjoys them and despite knowing that they are produced by animation experts and makeup artists, the flawless skin we see presented makes us despise our blemishes, wrinkles, and acne. Moreover, the slim and lean bodies of the models make us feel self-conscious about our weight whereas their voluminous hairs make us despise our often too curly, too thin, or too lifeless hairs. As a result, we end up buying the product from the commercial we dislike so much in order to be perfect like the people in it.
A Different Perspective
But, the Dove company has a different approach, as noted on Healthy Holistic Living. The models which they use are girls and women just like regular females and their commercials are filled with real people who are expressing similar concerns about their looks and these types of ads make us feel fulfilled and good about ourselves knowing that there are others like us. We buy their products because we are more comfortable listening to a company which tells us that we are already beautiful than the ones which tell us that we need the specific product to be beautiful.
Since they advertise “genuine beauty”, we believe that the company uses all-natural ingredients. Unfortunately, this is not the case! Their products are filled with toxins…
