Nowadays, more than ever before, there are movements to eliminate industrial sodium fluoride from the water supply because of the increase of scientific data against this additive.
Moreover, according to one of the most renowned medical journals, The Lancet, fluoride is a neurotoxin and it has been classified in the same group with mercury, lead, and arsenic.
What Does the Report Show?
According to the report’s summary, a systematic review discovered 5 distinct similar industrial chemicals as neurotoxicants, that is, lead, arsenic, methylmercury, toluene, and polychlorinated biphenyls. Moreover, there were 6 additional neurotoxicants found. According to the authors, there are other neurotoxicants that have not been found.
The Link with ADHD & Other Cognitive Impairments
The authors of the report put forward a global strategy for prevention and claim that untested chemicals cannot be presumed safe for the brain and so, the chemicals, both known and new ones, need to be tested for developmental neurotoxicity.
According to the report, neurodevelopmental disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD, among others, are now affecting numerous children throughout the world and they refer to it as a pandemic of developmental neurotoxicity.
Other findings from 2013 by a Harvard University meta-analysis funded by the NIH discovered that children who live in areas with high levels of fluoride in the water have much lower IQ scores that the children who lived in areas with smaller amounts of this chemical in the water supply.
The Link between Cancer & Fluoride
Sodium fluoride in drinking water has also been associated with different types of cancers. This substance is functionally different than the naturally-found calcium fluoride and it is being put to water supplies and used in dental products and by dentists who claim that it is advantageous for the oral health.
For the time being, fluoride is added in high amounts to water supplies across larger part of North America. But, this has not the standard practice everywhere. Namely, it is banned throughout most continental Europe and in other nations throughout the globe.
