5 Natural Flea Removers

  • A flea trap

Adult fleas are attracted to warmth and light so it is best to set the trap at night. Combine dish soap and some warm water in shallow containers. Make sure your night lamp is reflected in the water. The fleas jumping towards the light will actually go into the water and drown.

  • Use neem oil

Neem oil possesses strong insecticidal characteristics that disrupt the hormones of feeding in the insects. Hence, the oil will kill them by starving them out to death. Apply routinely for best results, i.e. once every two or three weeks.

  • Make a flea collar with essential oil

Apply several drops of a safer flea repellent variant like lavender or cedar essential oil to a dog scarf or bandana and place it on the dog as a protection from the fleas. Mix it with some olive oil prior to application. When the oil wears off, repeat the process of application and place the bandana back.

  • Use dry shampoo

Dry shampoo is great for both cats and dogs. This will relieve the itching and improve the skin health. Combine a cup of plain oatmeal and ½ a cup of baking soda in the blender. Apply it onto the dog’s coat with the hands or with a brush. Do it outdoors.

  • Vinegar

If you want to keep fleas away from your dog, giving them to drink diluted vinegar is highly beneficial. Combine one tsp of vinegar and one quart of water per 40 pounds of the dog’s weight. Add the mixture to their drinking water. Opt for apple cider vinegar or white vinegar.
