DIY Citronella Candles
You will need:
Metal tins or jars
Soy wax flakes
Candle wicks
Citronella or peppermint essential oil
Hot glue gun
Bamboo skewers
An empty tin can
A large pot
Preparation: First, glue the wicks to the bottom center of each tin. Then, pour the soy wax flakes in the empty tin. You need twice as much soy flakes than the volume of the tin. Put the tin in a larger pot wiht sufficient water to reach the sides of the tin.
Warm up the water, but make sure you stop before it starts to boil. When the wax melts, leave it to cool down a bit. Next, pour 30 drops of the essential oil you have chosen and mix with a skewer. Put the wax into the tins. Leave ¼ inch headspace in each. Wrap the surplus wick around a skewer and rest it on the tin’s rim.
Leave the wax to cool down and become solid. When it has become hard enough, unwrap the wick. Trim it to less than ½ inch. Now, all that remains is for you to light up the candle and get rid of those annoying bugs and insects!
