Meet Odd. Bot- A Weed Pulling Robot that Doesn’t Use Chemicals

In 2018, May, a prototype of an autonomous weeding robot was released. The robot can scour fields and remove weeds with one blast.

It’s a brainchild of the start-up from Switzerland, ecoRobotix. But, now, this robot has been brought to a new level. It’s named the Odd.bot and it doesn’t use chemicals as the previous model.

Odd.bot is a greener, eco version. This innovation is the ideal for modern farmers who want to ease the weed removal.

The Odd.bot Is Changing the Farming World

The robot was presented last month at the CES in Las Vegas with an information booth and with the device on a display.

The founder and CEO, Martijn Lukaart said that the robot is currently intended for usage in organic farming fields to ease the weed pulling for larger farms where human work can be challenging and time-consuming.

It’s much more comfortable and faster. The goal of the robot is to work in the fields and better the crop yield by offering consistent weed removal.

The robot is 100 percent organic-since it doesn’t release any chemicals that can harm the plants.

How Does the Odd.bot Do Its Magic?

The robot works by autonomously roving along crops and it’s propelled on heavy-duty tires. One mechanism in the center of the robot which extends down is extracting weeds while it’s moving.

The cameras and sensors keep the robot focused on the task and away from the growing crops, no matter the row width.

The robots can be rented to clear out fields to jumpstart the growing season or to help as the crops are maturing.

The robot definitely minimizes the manual workload and the need for gas tractors which are polluting the environment.

Changing the Farming Market

It may also contribute to moving into the traditional farming market where it can affect the reduction of herbicide use.

The company notes on their website that their weed whacker aims to save more than 170,000 liters of chemical herbicides in the following 7 years.

By making organic farming a more profitable practice, the Odd.bot is a hope for a direct or indirect contribution to healthier food for reasonable prices.
