The Harpy Eagle Has a Wingspan of 7 Feet & Looks like a Human Dressed Up in a Bird’s Costume

Old photos of a harpy eagle are again confusing people after they’ve started being reshared on various social media platforms. The confusion comes from the fact that this bird looks a lot like it’s a man in a costume, rather than a bird.

But, it’s definitely a bird-an impressive one, for sure.

The photos that were originally shared by a Twitter and a Reddit user show the eagle from several angles. And, one man is also seen on the photos posing together with the unusual bird.

One of the most Impressive Eagles in the World

Other images show the bird’s face. One user wrote that the bird looks like it’s a person wearing a costume and another one said jokingly that maybe we’re all eagles wearing human costumes.

The eagle expert Fergus Beely said in a BBC documentary about this species of birds that he’s genuinely amazed by them and their high intelligence. He also noted that they’re one of the most potent eagles in the world.

Without doubt, the bird is big, majestic, fierce, and its stature is impressive.

The harpy eagles are birds of prey and live in the rainforest. There are 2 types of harpy eagles known to man-the Papuan and the American. Indeed, they look both very serious and goofy at the same time.

This raptor has a big wingspan that can reach up to 7 feet and 4 inches in width, although they’re not too heavy-they weigh only between 8 and 20 pounds.

Their habitat is the upper canopy layer of tropical lowland forests. However, because their habitat is being destroyed, there are only fewer than 50,000 of these birds in the world.

Interestingly, in Brazil, the harpy eagle is also known as the Royal Hawk.

They eat mostly larger prey rather than small birds. For example, sloths, other birds, snakes, lizards, and more.
