Without doubt, watching different animal species hanging out with each other is always so adorable.
And, when it comes to unusual animal friendships, we have to mention this one between an orang-utan family and a group of otters living in a ZOO in Belgium.
When their story went viral, people were amazed and immediately fell in love in their special friendship. Everyone who works in the ZOO also loves their friendship and enjoys watching them playing together.
The most Unusual Friendship: Orangutans & Otters, Best Friends
The otters met with the orang-utans for the first time when the workers at the Pairi Daiza ZOO in Bruglette ran their river through the enclosure of the orang-utans.
Ever since, they’ve been building one of the most special bonds. They always put a smile on visitors’ faces.
The daddy orang-utan is 24 years old and is very close with the otters. His loved one, Sari is 15 and they have a son Berani that has 4 years.
Berani is often seen playing hide-and-seek with his small-clawed otter friends.
According to the ZOO staff, the mostly play this game and other chase games.
The otters hide under tree trunks or wooden constructions and then Berani looks for them and when they pop out to tease him, it’s a one of a kind view.
A ZOO Dedicated to Animal Enrichment
This ZOO is very dedicated to implementing enrichment in their animal enclosure. That is, they put in a lot of effort in the quality of life of the animals.
Some of the ways are hiding food, puzzles, mind games, swings, logs, etc. And, of course, regular interaction between the animals and the different species.
In addition to this unique friendship, in their ZOO, the gorillas live with colobus monkeys whereas the penguins live with seals.
Their kangaroos share an enclosure with the pelicans and they also have squirrels living with bats, giraffes with ostriches, elephans with gazelles, and buffalos with zebras.
But, the ZOO Is Currently Closed because of the Pandemic
The ZOO is still closed for visitors until it’s allowed to re-open. Belgium is under lockdown because of the pandemic.
However, the ZOO is making sure each of their animals gets the best care on the daily.
