Several congregants between the ages of 12 to 70 had to be admitted into the hospital due to feeling unwell from cookies they ate and reported tasting ‘unusually salty’ and later turned out to contain cannabis.
Church is symbol of enlightenment, community, and friendship for a lot of people. In no way it’s considered a place where you should get high, right?
But, this apparently happed to the 6 congregation members from the St John’s Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, Indiana back in 2016.
The community was shocked.
And, they really got high on weed cookies.
Who Brought the Weed Cookies into the Church?
The 74-year-old parishioner Mr. Jones was accused of putting THC into the cookies. He initially admitted to make the cookies; however, he denied adding an illegal substance to them.
However, after a warrant by the police to search his home, they discovered a pill bottle with capsules of a brown and oily substance that later turned out to be cannabis.
The ‘baker’ turned himself in after the warrant was issued-they charged him with criminal recklessness and possession of hash oil.
Father Daniel Mahan from the church said that they prayed for everyone who was involved in the incident. They were also praying for Mr. Jones and for justice with mercy.
6 of the parishioners were affected and they had no idea what was going on-later, they said that although the cookies did taste a bit salty, they never thought they contain cannabis.
Some of them later felt dizzy, others felt sweaty, some even said they felt sick.
