During her 2-decade ‘nurse career’, this woman had access to multiple hospital departments, including the surgery area. The officials in Quebec found that this woman who had been working as a nurse for 20 years wasn’t a nurse at all.
The health authority fired the woman from the position in the hospital in Jonquiere.
She succeeded in getting hired and keeping her job by giving the nursing licence number of someone with the same name. The ploy was discovered recently when she applied for a training course.
The officials saw that the age on the license number doesn’t match with her real age. The woman was suspended right away and after an investigation, she was dismissed.
She Managed to Work at Various Departments through Her 20-Year-Ploy
Prior to being exposed, the woman worked in numerous departments in the hospital, including the room for surgeries.
According to a spokeswoman for the health authority, a search didn’t locate any evidence about the woman’s nursing degree.
The documents which she was asked to provide during the years were falsified, according to Savard. And, the flaw in the records system has been fixed to make sure two people can’t use the same license.
Savard couldn’t explain how a person without formal training and proper education could keep a job so long.
It’s possible that she was surrounded by competent individuals in the hospital so her shortcomings couldn’t be detected.
The president of the Quebec’s Order of Nurses, Luc Mathieu, said that these impostor cases are rare, but very troubling.
It’s serious and concerning because the person may have done things that had severe consequences for the patients.
