A primary school teacher from this Dutch school spent hours on knitting dolls that represent 23 of her students because she missed them so much during the school closures.
Parents aren’t the only ones who’re dealing with the problem of school shutdowns and their children not attending school. Homeschooling may have its perks, but it can also be quite the burden, especially for parents who have to work.
And, teachers are the other ones who miss their students- they spend 5 days a week together and they develop a special bond-they’re like their other parents.
Teachers are people who’ve chosen a path of shaping youngsters and helping them grow into healthy adults.
The pandemic has changed all of this and created a new reality for all of us.
Physical Presence Has a Major Importance
Ingeborg Meinster-Van der Duin is a primary school teacher in the Dr. H. Bavinck School in Haarlem in Netherlands and she was really sad about not being able to share the classroom with her pupils every day.
The school closures hit her hard and she missed her students a lot. So, she decided to make something that will keep them close to her.
She knitted a doll that represents each of her students-they were so meticulously done that the children could immediately recognize who is who when she showed them on a video call.
She also knitted a doll for herself. She is proud of the project and says that she plans on making dolls next year of the next class.
She managed to give them out when the children came to the school to pick up their belongings which were stayed in the school during the lockdowns.
The children were so excited to get their dolls-they’re really amazing; each of them is around 10 cm tall and are made with so much attention to detail.
