According to science, people who swear a lot are actually very honest and more intelligent. The truth is that there’s rarely a person who hasn’t sworn at least a dozen times in their lifetime, even those who claim they never do it!
Maybe it happened when you accidentally stubbed your toe in the door this morning or when you had to slam the brakes down this morning on the drive to work.
Or, perhaps you’ve had enough and you’re cursing on the heavens.
But, according to research, though it sounds bad and many people consider it a poor habit and not a nice thing to do, swearing may not be as negative as we may think.
Studies Find Swearing to Be a Sign of some Good Personality Traits
According to a multilevel study done by a group of scientists from the Maastricht University in the Netherlands, the Hong Kong University of Science and Tech, and the Stanford and Cambridge Universities, people who tend to swear more are actually people who’re more honest, have higher integrity, both personal and societal.
The scientists concluded that the people who used a lot of obscenities did it to let go off steam and thus, were less likely to harm others or themselves when they were under pressure.
Swearing helps people lower stress and thus, makes them more trustworthy than people who tend to swear less and keep it all inside.
Why is swearing a sign of honesty, you may wonder?-Because it honestly represents how you’re feeling in the moment and thus, you have greater likelihood of making good friends.
So, You may now Swear Freely, without a Worry on Your Mind?
It turns out that what most of society and your family thinks it’s offensive, it’s actually good for distressing, relaxing, and being more honesty.
Moreover, previous studies on swearing have found it to be a potent way of relieving pain; so, some may consider swearing some kind of art form!
Still, it’s pivotal to remember that swearing at someone does hurt feelings and in no way do these findings indicate that you should start acting bad and swearing all the time, just because science concluded something.
The people involved in these studies were people with a colourful vocabularies, rather than people who intentionally swear at others.
