Marty’s Place is the name of the dream retirement facility in New Jersey for senior dogs. The non-profit is located in the Upper Freehold Township.
The sanctuary is made to remind of homes so that the four-legged residents, aged 7 or older, can feel comfy and happy.
According to the amazing founder of the sanctuary, Dooren Jakubcak, the chances of a senior dog being adopted or living in a shelter isn’t as high as for a puppy and this is why he decided to help them.
Marty’s Place, the Dream-Come-True Sanctuary for Senior Dogs?
At the sanctuary, every dog has sufficient living space, dog and human companionship, dental and medical care, as well as mental and physical activities that will stimulate them in accordance with their age and capacities.
The sanctuary also has walking trails, suites for sleeping, an indoor pool, as well as a family room for the dogs to work out, relax, and interact with the volunteers.
Although a lot of the senior dogs that are admitted here mostly come from pet owners, others are admitted because their owners were faced with financial challenges or have been displaced.
Changing the Perception about Senior Dogs
The goal of the sanctuary is to improve the perception people have about older dogs and so they also offer some of the dogs for adoption.
Jakubcak says that when they commit to a dog, it means the dog has a forever home, whether here in the sanctuary or some other adoptive home.
Although they’ve faced financial struggles because of the pandemic, the staff is working hard to raise money by holding virtual events.
One of the volunteers, Rennie Rankin, says that people don’t realize that it can be a really rewarding feeling to adopt a senior dog. This dog will show you immense love until their last day.
