Indeed, in the world of animals, unlikely friendships can develop between unusual species and dogs seem to have a knack for befriending other species.
At least this is the case with Osiris, a 5-year-old Dutch shepherd, who became best friend with Riff Rat, a 7-month-old rat.
These two have been inseparable for some time now, despite their immense size difference. The two ‘partners in crime’ don’t like being apart and have so much trust in each other.
Osiris & Riff Rat, the most Unusual Friendship You Have ever Seen
The unusual, yet lovely friendship began when Osiris’s owners rescued Riff Rat when he had only 4 weeks. The rat was tiny and fragile and didn’t even open his eyes yet.
They nursed him using the back of a syringe. Osiris himself is a rescue; he was left in a parking lot when still a puppy. When his owners took him in temporarily, they fell in love with him instantly and decided it to keep him for good.
However, he didn’t know that he would also help nurse another rescue to health. Today, a trained therapy dog, Osiris has helped his family care for various animals throughout the years.
The Family Was a bit Anxious about how Osiris Will Accept Riff
At first, Osiris’s owners weren’t sure that the two would be good to each other or worse, they were anxious about how will Osiris behave towards the rat. After all, he’s huge in comparison with Riff.
But, these fears were unnecessary considering his amazing soul-the two hit it off pretty fast. Today, they’re so close that Osiris even allows Riff to crawl into his mouth and clean his teeth.
Riff enjoys licking the inside parts of Osiris’s mouth. His owners explain that people are probably wondering if they fear Osiris would eat him; however, the answer is no.
They say that Osiris has helped care for dozens of animals and he’s turned out to be one of gentlest dogs they’ve come across, despite his big size.
Love Has no Limits
Not only do they spend a lot of time together, but are very affectionate towards each other. This duo has no limits; what an adorable friendship they’ve built and they’re never scared to show their love.
His family says how seeing the two friends caring for each other gives them hope for rest of creatures on our planet, especially us humans.
