Kayakers Save a Pair of Rare Eagles Drowning in the Danube River

This Hungarian couple was taking a part in a challenge to increase the awareness of the pollution in the Danube River.

While they were kayaking on the river, an unexpected thing happened: a pair of rare, white-tailed eagles nearby were clasped together were risking getting drowned.

The couple, Klaudia Kis and Richard Varga, decided they have to save them and so they did!

Before they continued their journey from the Black Sea near Romania to the Black Forest in Germany which takes around three months, they were on a quite important rescuing mission.

They will never forget it, that’s for sure!

How Did the Couple Save the Eagles from Drowning?

According to Varga, he spotted two big wings in the middle of the river trying to fly away. They had a rescue rope on the kayak and he used it like a lasso.

He threw it on one of the eagles and tried pulling it and was successful. Kis explained that while Varga was dealing with the first eagle, she tried to catch the second one.

She recalls it wasn’t easy: it swam completely in the other direction.

Then, the couple used their two kayaks to close the way in front of the eagle so it couldn’t get in another direction, but only on the kayak.

Soon, one wing was to one kayak and the other on the other kayak. After they’ve divided them, the eagles were free and doing well!
