Two Boy Scouts Save Drowning Woman while Cycling along the Missouri Floodwaters

These two boy scouts from Missouri are hailed heroes for rescuing an 18-year-old lady from drowning in floodwaters.

The 15-year-old Dominic Viet and the 16-year-old Joseph Diener were biking in Colombia, Missouri in the afternoon when they heard someone calling for help.

Because of heavy rainfall that happened before, the area was flooded and even an entire basketball court was submerged in water.

They saw a woman hanging on the hoop and struggling in the water. This is when they realized they had to do something and help her.

Two Boys Help Save a Drowning Lady

The boys left their bikes on the side and swam out to the woman. Each of them grabbed one of her shoulders and brought her to safety. Diener later said that he feels that when you feel that you can help out someone, you should do it because you can’t know if someone else is coming.

Although the Colombia Fire Department and an ambulance were called to help a female in distress, by the time they arrived, the boys had already rescued the lady.

She was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The assistant fire Chief Jerry Jenkins said that the flood caused the creeks to overflow and it was very dangerous. The boys’ act was heroic since you can’t know what’s in the floodwater-it could be chemicals, sewage, etc.

Thankfully, it all ended well, he emphasized.

Morgan Dailey, the scoutmaster of the teens, said how scouts are taught to be ready at any moment. Preparedness is something they teach scouts, particularly when there’s an emergency.

This was clearly one: a young woman was struggling in the water, hanging on a basketball hoop and yelling for help.

The Boys’ Bravery Won’t Go Unrecognized

To recognize their bravery, the Colombia Fire Department will honor the boys with a Citizen Life Safety Award.

Dominic’s mom, Monica Viet, says how the boys are very humble about what they did.

Although they were shocked to learn what happened, the boys’ parents were relieved after learning everyone was safe.

She added they had no need for recognition, but just wanted to help. For the boys, this was the right thing to do!
