Target Will Pay 100% of College Tuition & Textbooks for Employees

Target announced a pledge to pay for the college tuition and textbooks for its US part-time and full-time employees who want to go to school.

The retail giant that boasts 49 locations in Massachusetts is following the example of other US companies that are providing more advantages to their employees to attract and keep talent in a tighter job market.

Target’s Pledge to Pay for Employees’ Tuition & Textbooks

Starting as early as their first day, more than 340,000 Target workers can choose from 250 programs in 40 schools and universities in the country and they can enroll there without spending a dime.

Some of the universities are Southern New Hampshire and Johnson & Wales.

According to the chief human resources officer, Melissa Kremer, a major number of their team members build careers at Target and they know many will appreciate the chance to pursue additional education.

They don’t want the cost to prevent them from doing this and they’re trying to make education available for everyone.

What’s more, the retailer will pay for up to $10,000 per year for a Master’s program within their network of schools like the University of Arizona, Oregon State, and Morehouse College.

The employees will not just have access to undergraduate and associate degrees, but also to numerous boot camp programs and certificates.

What Is the Reason behind this Major Decision of Target?

In order to make this project possible, Target partnered up with the Guild Education platform and will invest $200 million in the next four years to make this possible.

This decision comes after retailers throughout the country have been facing trouble hiring workers to their warehouses and staff for their stores. Recently, the largest American retailer Walmart announced that they’ll pay for books and tuitions at some schools for its workers.
