A two-legged pooch rescued from Afghanistan is now living the time of his life. He doesn’t allow this disability to prevent his regular zoomies in the backyard of his Manchester home.
He was brought to the UK after he had been rescued from the harsh streets of Afghanistan. The sweet pup is showing his social media followers that life can be fun, despite the apparent disability.
Mazar is a 10-year-old rescue and one of Helene Svinos’s six rescue dogs that travel around the UK in a campervan for CaniCross competitions.
Dog Rescued from the Streets of Afghanistan Is now Enjoying Life
Back in 2015, Mazar was brought to the UK and has been living with his pack of rescues that includes one cat and an abandoned bunny.
Helene, who is an A&E doctor, said that they found Mazar on the streets of Afghanistan with badly injured hind legs that were fused and fixed. The poor thing was probably hit by a car and sustained traumatic injuries that crushed his back legs.
His legs were amputated in Afghanistan before he was flown over to the UK. Helene explained that Mazar’s back legs were fixed and stuck out rigid in front of him.
The clever pup somehow got to a local vet lab and the staff did everything in their power to help him. They also vaccinated him. However, with their resources being limited, so there wasn’t anything more they could do.
However, they did manage to arrange a transfer to a shelter and looked for rehab options.
Mazar’s Surgery Goes Well
Helene explained that the surgery to remove the back legs was successful and only a few days after, he was getting back to his normal self and lifting his body up onto his front legs.
Mazar started living with Helene in the UK in 2015. She says he’s a smart dog who loves spending time outside in the city. He’s also a regular in the park and loves people and socializing with other dogs.
Helene tried to help Mazar by getting a set of wheels for him; the pup used it for five months; however, he preferred walking and running on his own, despite missing his hind legs.
Helene explains that Mazar doesn’t scoot. He just somehow lifts himself up on his front legs! He’s the coolest dog and no sounds of the city annoy him. However, he seems to dislike the Manchester rain.
Mazar’s other five canine friends and their playfulness are proof that disability doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. They love to go down sand dunes or chase each other around.
Still, whenever Mazer’s legs get tired from too much running, he shares a stroller with his sibling Bambi who wears a set of wheels. Helene encourages people to help disabled animals. T
hey often get overlooked and she’s trying to show that they can live a happy and full life and be awesome companions!
