Quick-Thinking 11-Year-Old Helps Save a Puppy from a Raging House Fire

This 11-year-old girl from Florida helped save a puppy’s life after a house caught fire during Labor Day weekend.

The girl, Mackenzie Jenkins was sitting on a swing during a Saturday evening when she heard barks and noticed smoke coming out of a neighbor’s home, explained the Cape Coral Fire Department.

Girl Immediately Calls 911 & Tells Them about the Dog Trapped Inside

The girl called 911 right away and explained what she’s seeing to the dispatchers. When the firefighters came inside, they knew they were searching for a dog thanks to the info this girl provides.

Although the puppy named Fiona was unresponsive when the firefighters found her, the EMS Lee County cooled her down and provided her with oxygen. By the time the fire was extinguished, the puppy was up and walking around.

Girl Was Recognized with a Community Recognition Coin

The sweet girl was presented by the firefighters with a Community Recognition Coin for her brave actions.

These coins are given to Cape Coral residents who go above and beyond. Indeed, she didn’t just help prevent more damage to her neighbors’ home, but also saved their beloved pet’s life!

The dog is now doing great and there have been no victims from the fire. The fire was fought by “Engines 2 and 3, Ladder 1, Truck 4, Rescues 3 and 4, and Battalions 1 and 2”.

Without a doubt, this is proof that heroes come in all sizes and shapes! We’re thankful for children like Mackenzie!
