Heartwarming: ‘Goodbye Kisses’ Jar Gives Dogs Special Last Treat before Euthanasia

A vet clinic in Alabama went viral after they shared their unique way of saying farewell to their furry friends on social media.

The manager of the Smiths Station Animal Hospital, Jennifer Williams, said how their technician Casey Hinkley came forward with the idea after she saw something similar online.

This is when other colleagues agreed and Tracy Gee made the jar. One of the doctors, Nicole Namie, came up with the quote which warmed everyone’s hearts when they saw it online.

‘Goodbye Kisses’ Jar Gives Dogs a Special Last Treat before they Cross Over the Rainbow Bridge

The quote on the jar says “this jar is reserved for our euthanasia appointments-because no dog should go to heaven without tasting chocolate”. Williams explains that the idea was great, but that seeing the jar broke her heart.

Williams explains how the hospital workers give the animals a bite of sandwich or another treat before they’re euthanized.

The photo of the jar was shared by more than 100,000 users on Facebook and got more than 13,000 comments from pet owners sharing their own stories of losing their beloved pets.

One of them said “we had to say goodbye to our boy on 8/30 because he had intestinal cancer…10 years old. Hardest thing ever-putting him to rest…”

Others shared what they’ve given to their pets as a last treat. One user said it was chocolate ice cream with banana and whipped cream.

Love for Our Pets Brings Us Closer Together

Williams and her colleagues are amazed by the outpour of love from the photo of the jar. Williams said how sweet it is to see that this small jar with Hershey’s kisses brought people from all over the world together.

She also added that these people are complete strangers, yet all of them have one thing in common-they adore their pets and understand how it feels to lose them. They’re part of the family.

This post touched people’s hearts and the vet hospital has already received a lot of donations with bags of Hershey’s kisses offering to fill the next jar. Other vet workers have also shared the post and noted that they’ll place the same jars in their hospitals.
