Drew Doggett is a photographer who travels the world and photographs unique landscapes, cultures, and people.
One of his most enchanting series is the Realm of Legends. It presents the unique beauty of Icelandic horses that roam the vast territory.
Although a lot of photographers want to capture the stunning Icelandic landscapes, Doggett decided to go one step further and embrace the equestrian population that lives there.
The photos are a combination of myth and fantasy that looks too good to be true.
Amazing Fairytale-like Photos of Icelandic Horses
When Doggett spent time in Iceland, he lived on a farm where there were hundreds of horses. He was immediately attracted by the amazing landscape through the folklore tales.
This included the legend of the popular, eight-legged Icelandic horse Sleipnir that is believed to be the spirit animal of Odin, the mythological god.
The impressive equine series he published put focus on the relationship between the semi-wild horses and the extreme environment they live in.
The landscape in the photos features snow-covered expanses, black sandy beaches, icy lagoons, and majestic waterfalls.
The beautiful horses graze, gallop, and stand proud in front of the otherworldly background, showing their resilience to the elements.
Doggett usually shoots in black and white but he decided to shot in color for this series. He said that the light creates stunning hues that make the series sublime.
The unique photo series shows the snow-white and brown horses in contrast to the pale, glacial blues and the dark shades from the rocks and sand.
How Does Doggett Describe the Equine Series?
Every image shows the powerful, but calm nature of horses in a wild landscape that’s constantly chaotic.
The waterfalls are loud and violently beautiful, yet the horses are calm and stand just feet from the millions of gallons of water, explains Doggett.
