Robin Williams Secretly Raised $50,000 for a Seattle Food Bank before His Death

Before his tragic death at the age of 63, Robin Williams made numerous acts of kindness, most of which remain unknown to this day.

The legendary Oscar-awarded actor and stand-up comedian raised $50,000 for a food bank in Seattle, Washington, before his death in 2014.

These donations were gathered between 2004 and 2008 and he chose to keep his generosity out of the public’s eye.

He Donated Money from His Shows to this Food Bank

The Dead Poets Society start started supporting the West Seattle Food Bank back in 2004. He had a stand-up at a nightclub in Seattle and gave all the money to the food bank.

He performed there again in 2007  and 2008 and donated all the proceeds to the food bank again. All of the money he donated to the food bank totaled close to $50K.

The bank’s executive director at the time, Fran Yeatts, says he was amazed because Robin Williams was a person who really understood that there are people who were struggling a lot.

Those who benefitted from his donations were also speechless by his kindness and the fact that he didn’t call in on the cameras when he helped out those in need.

Mike Cervino, a volunteer at the bank, commented on the influence that Williams left behind. He was a great comedian, he donated to their food bank, and plenty of people rely on food banks there.

Williams committed suicide in his Paradise Cay home in California in August 2014. He hanged himself and suffered asphyxia. He was also diagnosed with depression and anxiety, as well as Parkinson’s.

The autopsy also showed that he had diffuse Lewy body dementia too.
