A Miracle: Dog Helps Keep Injured Hiker Alive in the Cold Croatian Mountains

This dog helped save the life of an injured hiker by lying on top of him and keeping him warm for amazing 13 hours. The hiker, Grga Brkic, fell while he was on a hike with his dog named North in the Velebit Mountains in Croatia.

He was unable to move. There were two other hikers with Brkic, but they couldn’t reach him and this is when they raised the alarm. North, an eight-month-old Alaskan Malamute was with Brkic all the time until the rescuers reached them.

The sweet dog curled up with Brkic and helped him stay warm until the rescue crew arrived.

The Friendship between Man & Dog Has no Boundaries

The Croatian mountain rescue service shared a heartwarming photo of Brkic and North and wrote that the friendship of man and dog has no boundaries. Brkic explained that North curled up next to him and ensured he stays warm while the rescuers made their attempt.

30 responders managed to find Brkic and North 13 hours after the accident and they transported them off the mountain. Brkic said that his dog is a real miracle and that the time before the rescue crew arrived was passing very slowly.

North suffered no injuries from the ordeal.  The mountain rescue service of Croatia warned hikers against taking dogs along, especially during winter when the conditions are harsher.
