Baby Donkey Named ‘Betty White’ to Honor the Late Actress’s Donations to the Animal Sanctuary for Years

For years, the iconic actress and TV star who recently passed away at the age of 99, Betty White, had been donating to the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue located in San Angelo in Texas.

After death on the 31st of December in 2021, the animal sanctuary decided to name a baby donkey Betty to honor the generous actress who loved the sanctuary and the donkeys that lived there.

They shared the heartwarming news on their Facebook, explaining that the jennet which was born on Christmas Day didn’t have a name until it was New Year’s Eve.

A Huge Animal Lover & Long-Time Supporter of the Sanctuary

White had been supporting the donkey sanctuary as of 2006 so they wanted to honor her memory. They didn’t just name the donkey by her, but also named their new nursery in her honor.

The supporters of the sanctuary note that Betty White was a major voice for animals, not just in the US, but elsewhere too. They’re sure that this would make her so happy. White is remembered for her role in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland.

She won eighth Emmies. The latest one was at the age of 88 for hosting Saturday Night Live Show. White is also the author of two memoirs, Here We Go Again: My Life in Television and If You Ask Me.

White donated tens of thousands of dollars to the sanctuary, explains Peaceful Valley Executive Director Mark Meyers. The checks came from her house and then from her management company.

White didn’t just like donkeys, but she loved all animals.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind that trains guide dogs and gives them free-of-charge to people who’re blind or with poor vision named one of their new puppies BettyRose, referencing White’s role in Golden Girls, said the CEO Christine Benninger.

White appeared in plenty of public service announcements for this non-profit and donated generous gifts.

White had adopted a golden retriever from this non-profit. His name was Pontiac and he turned out not to be suitable for guide dog work.

Moreover, the staff from All4Paws Animal Rescue in Pawleys Island in South Carolina named a sweet puppy Betty in honor of the late actress. It survived a car hit and was found at the same time that the public learned of Betty White’s death.
