Brave Bystander Rescues Three Kids from an Icy Pond & Deputies Bring One of Them Back to Life with CPR

According to Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, three kids from Colorado survived the fall into an icy pond thanks to a brave 23-year-old bystander.

On the day of the accident, four kids who’re related were playing on the ice when three of them fell through a pond at the Addison at Cherry Creek apartments around 3:24 pm.

The bystander, a woman named Dusti Talavera saw this and jumped into the pond and pulled the 4-year-old girl and the 11-year-old boy out of the pond.

It all went well until she fell into the pond herself and started struggling.

Brave Woman Doesn’t Hesitate for a Moment & Jumps into an Icy Pond to Rescue the Kids

Talavera later explained that she was looking out of her window when she spotted several kids walking on the icy pond and then, only a couple of seconds later, she saw that they fell in.

Before she realized it, she was in the middle of the pond, rescuing the kids.

But, this is when she also fell in. She tried hard to pull out the third child, the 6-year-old girl, but she struggled. Luckily, a 16-year-old boy who was a cousin of the victim came and helped Talavera.

Talavera later explained that she was trying to keep the girl’s head up and also her own and the pond was very deep. It’s good that the young man threw them a rope and helped them get out.

The 6-Year-Old Was Unresponsive & Needed CPR

Talavera wasn’t worried about her safety but for the children who needed help.

Unfortunately, the 6-year-old wasn’t breathing and wasn’t conscious, and had no pulse. When the deputies arrived, they removed the child’s coat and started giving her CPR.

This kept on going until the South Metro Fire Rescue came to the scene and took over the life-saving methods. The 6-year-old was later taken to the Children’s Hospital, breathing and with a pulse. She was stable.

Deputy Blaine Moulton said that they’re all fathers with young children and it was really hard seeing the girl with a blue face and her eyes open, but not responsive and not breathing.

The entire time they were there administering CPR, he didn’t want someone to lose his daughter and they all did their best to help the girl pull through.

It was good that someone like Talavera was nearby when this accident happened and all of the officers agreed on this.
