Uber Driver Goes Above & Beyond to Help His Teen Passenger

Hundreds of people were stuck in their cars. Some, same as Williams, were stranded overnight into the morning on Tuesday.

Williams works as a full-time realtor and property manager in Washington and also drives for Uber and Lyft. The ordeal started after he work up from a long nap on a Monday evening and opened up his Uber app and saw plenty of driving opportunities.

He didn’t find anything about road closures and no other phone alerts. Around midnight on a Tuesday, Williams went and picked up three riders before he picked up the teen who was headed home to Williamsburg, Virginia that’s some 150 miles away.

The girl planned to use the train, but derailment cancelled the route so she called for an Uber. Williams picked up the girl at Union Station and then got out on the I-95. Some 20 miles into the ride, near Lorton, it all stopped.

He tried to get out of the highway, but he was directed back to the traffic that wasn’t moving.  They thought it was going to be over soon, but nothing moved for hours.

There were snacks and drinks in the car and plenty of gas; however, he started to become worried as the fuel was spending.

The girl was very emotional after the failure to get home with a train and then being stranded on the highway. Williams spoke to her parents, letting them know he will make sure their daughter is safe.

Williams Finds a Way to Come Out of the Traffic & Bring the Girl Home

Williams eventually found a way to get out of the interstate around 7:30 am the following morning.

Tired from being in traffic the whole night and still being far from home, Williams booked a room for the young girl at around 8:15 am so she can get some rest and sleep and make other travel plans.

Williams offered to take her home once the roads clear out, free of charge. However, she ultimately contacted a friend who picked her up and drove her home safely, finely.

Williams’s positive story was shared by Uber in a tweet and it was captioned: “not all heroes wear capes.” A spokesman for Uber said that Mr. Williams did an amazing thing in a very stressful and tense situation and they thank him for his thoughtful actions.
