90-Year-Old Woman Loves German Shepherds & Donates $32K to the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit to Purchase Them Bulletproof Vests

A 90-year-old woman with a special love for dogs donated more than $32,000 for dogs from the Florida Sheriff’s Office’s K9 unit after she passed away. Her legacy continues.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office announced the donation by Pamela Mobbs who passed away in 2020 when she was 90. A Daytona Beach resident, Pamela had a huge love for all dogs, but especially German Shepherds.

A Woman with Strong Love for Dogs, Especially German Shepherds

She specified that the money is to be used to purchase bulletproof vests for the K9 department of the Sheriff’s office and to buy and train more German Shepherds for this unit.

Her daughter Jane explains that her mom’s love for dogs started during her youth in England.

Mobbs’s granddad had a strong guard dog that most people were afraid of. One day, her mom went into the backyard and her grandpa feared the worst; however, the dog was very gentle with Mobbs and always seemed to want to protect her.

Mobbs had cared for numerous German Shepherds throughout her life. She fell in love with the police K9s when Jane took her to a K9 demonstration.

She loved watching the dogs work with their officers. Her mom believed that all of the K9 dogs should have proper bulletproof vests because they’re also exposed to risky situations as much as their handlers.

Her daughter added that Mobbs would’ve been so happy and proud if she could see the difference she’s helping make in these dogs’ lives.

The Sheriff’s Office Says This Donation Will Make All the Difference

According to the Sheriff’s Office, they currently have 18 K9 dogs and they’re trained for different jobs.

The donation by Mobbs is an amazing gift and it shows the immense love this woman had for dogs, according to Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

Her legacy, Chitwood notes, will be a positive influence on the department and all of the citizens for years to come.
