24-Year-Old Man Quits His Job & now Offers Scottish Highland Trips in a New York School Bus (The Hostel on Wheels)

Angus Luff is a 24-year-old man who had decided to transform a New York school bus into a holiday home and pursue his dream.

His hostel on wheels can host up to six people who can have a unique, amazing adventure of a lifetime.

This business graduate takes tourists on holidays in the Highlands in his refurbished hostel on wheels. He came up with this idea after he watched a movie on Netflix (Expedition Happiness) and saw a couple that was traveling North America in a refurbished school bus.

After Graduation, He Left His Job & Started to Work on the Bus

Luff graduated back in 2019; however, he quickly quit his job as a management consultant in Leicester because he wanted to focus on creating the hostel on wheels. Soon after this, he had transformed the bus into a luxurious holiday home with seating parts, beds, and a kitchen.

Today, he organizes road trips in the Highlands, from Glencoe to the Cairngorms. The tourists can explore different activities outdoors, including swimming, kayaking, and hiking. He’s not just their tour guide, but also their cooker, cleaner, and driver.

The bus was built in 1999 and it’s a Bonnie Camper and an International 3800 that used to take kids to and from school in New York. Luff purchased it in 2019 and it took two months for it to come from the US.

His Dad Helped Him Out in the Refurbishing of the Bus

He refurbished the bus with the help of his dad and ensured it meets all the needed regulations in the UK. What’s more, he also took a five-day-course for an HGV driving license and tested his tour with his friends before offering it to tourists.

When asked about the bus, Luff who’s originally from Edinburgh, says that these are iconic buses and very interesting because you rarely see them in real life. He says that people often beep and wave at them.

He jokingly says they often feel like celebrities. The first tour with tourists happened back in June 2021. He describes it as an amazing experience. He had a group of ladies from London.

How Much Does It Cost to Be on this One-of-a-Kind Bus Tour?

The cost of a five-day-tour is 595 pounds and it’s an all-inclusive option. It begins from Edinburgh and then heads to the Cairngorms and then Glencoe. He comes back through Stirling to Edinburgh.

Luff loves his job and says that the outdoor world changes your perspective because the landscapes amaze you. In a way, he’s grateful that he basically heads out on a holiday every week.
