97-Year-Old Granny in Singapore Keeps Selling Fruits & Here’s Why

This lady centenarian from Singapore sells veggies and fruits she purchases from a nearby supermarket because she needs to make some money, according to the description in a post that went viral.

Her story became known after she was photographed and the photo was shared on Facebook by user Samuel Lee.

Originally, the post claimed that this woman is fragile and weak, but still doing her best to come out and sell every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It also said how she had to push a trolley with groceries on her own which is quite heavy for someone her age.

I Have to Sell at Higher Price to Make a Living

According to the Facebook post, the lady, Teo Suan, sells fruits and veggies she buys from the Sheng Shiong supermarket at a slightly higher price in order to make a living.

She sets up the Styrofoam boxes with produce on the first floor of a corridor at Thomson VTwo condominium.

Lee added she’s an honest grandma who tells her buyers that she sells the fruits she purchased from the market, at a higher price.

This is when he also wrote that no one is willing to buy from her fresh produce because they can get them from the market for a cheaper price.

He made an appeal to his friends to help her out to get food on her table. Only a day after this post, a customer gave the lady S$100 to purchase all of her produce, only 30 minutes into the day.

Mitchell Chan who purchased all of the fresh produce for that day said he did it because he was proud of Suan. She’s 97, yet she’s still out here and although it’s more expensive than in a market, that’s not the point.

The point is to be helpful and help out each other. Others also came to Suan’s stand, buying her produce and presenting her with gifts.

Suan confirmed that she’s 97 and that she had been selling in the area for 37 years. She told the media she does it because it’s fun because it’s hot at home and down here, she’s able to sell and earn.

Lee Makes an Update to the Situation with the Elderly Lady To Clarify Things

Later in the day after sharing the original post, Lee made an update saying that plenty of people reached out to him because of the post and told him the lady is doing just fine and that she’s not struggling as he described.

Some even told him that she’s doing well, but only sells because she wants to.

Anyway, it wasn’t Lee’s goal to harm the lady with the post in any way. His purpose was to encourage others to support her, regardless of what her reason to sell at this age is.

Although the lady is apparently struggling with her hearing and vision, she was positively surprised by the generosity of her new customers.

she lives with her family which is very big and she’s financially okay, only sells because it’s something she enjoys doing.
