The Chicago millionaire businessman and ex-candidate for mayor Willie Wilson will donate $1 million in free gas next week.
This decision comes after his free gas giveaway Thursday snarled traffic throughout the city but managed to provide $200,000 fillups.
Wilson has owned and managed various McDonald’s franchises and is the owner of Omar Medical Supplies. He is also the producer of the nationally syndicated gospel music TV program Singsation which won an Emmy Award in 2012.
$1 Million Gas Giveaway Organized by Wilson
According to Wilson, he will donate the $1 million in free gas on the 24th of March at 5 locations in Chicago and in suburban Cook County.
The free gas giveaway begins at 7 am and each of the vehicles at these gas stations will receive $50 in gas until the million is exhausted. This is decided after the evident struggle of residents with the high prices.
Namely, the prices rose to as much as $4.55 for regular and $5.32 for premium in Illinois, according to the AAA.
The Highest Increase of Gas Prices in the Last 14 Years
This is said to be the highest increase in 14 years. What’s more, to offer more help, the participating gas stations will lower their prices to be able to provide for more families and they will also invite the press, officials, and clergy to pump gas.
When Wilson hosted the first giveaway, there were long lines all across the city.
By 7 am, at the Amoco at 7201 N. Clark St. in Rogers Park, the line began at 2 am going all the way to Touhy Avenue to Sheridan Road.
