NY Police Officer Adopts a Dog She Helped Save from a Hot Car

A month after being saved from a hot car by the NY police, this dog is now happy in his forever home, adopted by one of the officers who saved him.

This June, officers from the 19th Precinct responded to a call of a dog being trapped inside a locked car in a parking lot.

By the time they arrived, they estimated that the dog had already spent two hours inside the car. The inside of the car could quickly go over 120 degrees considering the temperature that day was around 85 degrees.

Thanks to the police officers, the white fluffy doggo was free from the hot car and unharmed.

Police Officer Who Saved the Dog Decides to Adopt Him

According to a tweet by the precinct, the NYers who reported the dog locked in the car are the people we should be thanking.

And, their cops reacted fast and located the car and the distressed dog inside. They had to break the window to get out the dog.

He was immediately transferred to a vet’s office and the criminal investigation continued. The dog was examined and everything was okay. The 26-year-old, the owner of the car, didn’t get the dog back and was charged with one count of animal cruelty.

The ASPCA took over the dog and they prepared him for adoption. But, the good news is that he didn’t have to wait for too long.

One of the officers who rescued him, Aruna Maharaj, stepped up and decided to adopt him. The precinct shared a happy photo of the two and wrote that this dog won’t be neglected anymore.

What To Do If You Notice a Dog in a Hot Car?

Although you may be tempted to react and help an animal trapped inside a hot car, the Humane Society of the US advises calling the authorities first for assistance and to lower the risk of liabilities and injuries.

If you have a dog or some other domestic yourself, never leave them locked inside a car, especially during hot days. This prevents heatstroke which could cause tissue damage and organ failure!
