The Best from Our Grandmas: Traditional Remedy to Relieve Joint & Back Ache at Home

Our grandmas and great-grandmas relied on different natural remedies to resolve their health struggles. Sometimes, the solution may be closer than you think and you won’t have to spend countless dollars on expensive store-bought pain-relieving creams and lotions when nature comes to the rescue.

Below, check out the recipe for a homemade DIY cream that can be used for topical application to reduce pain in the back and pain in the joints. 

DIY Healing Cream for Painful Back & Joints 

You will need:

1 tablespoon of honey

1 tablespoon of mustard

1 tablespoon of salt

1 tablespoon of baking soda

Preparation:

Warm up the mustard and then combine it with the other ingredients until you get a homogenous mixture. Keep stirring if you notice bubbles forming when the mustard and baking soda come into contact and they’ll disappear. 

How to use it:

Before you apply the cream, warm it up a bit and apply it to the painful areas. Cover them with a plastic wrap and cover the area with a towel. 

Leave it like that for three hours or overnight. Take out the towel and plastic wrap and rinse the area with soap and warm water. 

Repeat this procedure for two to three days for optimal results.

Good to Know:

  • You can keep this cream in the fridge for several days.
  • The cream may have a bit of a strange odor because of the mustard, but this shouldn’t worry you.
  • For optimal results, use the cream at night (you can use it throughout the day as well if you’re dealing with unbearable pain and discomfort).
