This Old Italian Folk Remedy Can Destroy MRSA Bacteria & Superbugs

For decades, the leaves from chestnut have been used as a powerful natural remedy against skin infections and many other health issues. With this in mind, Cassandra Quave from Emory University did a study that showed the power of chestnut leaves to kill bacteria and superbugs such as MRSA.

MRS Bacteria

This strain of bacteria is known to be resistant to antibiotics and it is present in millions of people. Unfortunately, it is also responsible for more than 20,000 death cases in the U.S. on a yearly basis. These antibiotic-resistant bacteria develop from overuse of antibiotics. The study on chestnut leaves showed that the extract was capable to kill S. Aureus, a type of antibiotic-resistant bacterium, which is a promising discovery for the purposes of MRSA treatment.

For the needs of her research, she travelled to Italy where she visited locals who informed her about the recipe for tea from chestnut leaves which is known to lower infections and skin inflammation. Together with the team, they isolated 94 compounds, including oleanane and ursine and they were the most potent against staph infections. 5

0 grams of the extract were sufficient to avert tissue and red blood cell damage and even after 2-week period, the activity remained the same. Human studies indicate that the extract is not damaging to the microflora or skin cells.
