Men Who Marry Smart Women Live Longer

Yes guys, if you want to live longer, you should look for women with brains, not just beauty. Although getting older can be challenging, choosing the right women to be beside you can help you live a healthy and long life.

What’s more, a happy and loving marriage does not just ensure you a companionship for a lifetime, but it can help you improve your overall health in numerous different ways. Therefore, when you are choosing your long-term partner, choose wisely.

The Link between Intelligence and Alzheimer’s

Lawrence Whalley, a professor of mental health at the College of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Aberdeen claims that if men want to prolong their lifespan and lower their chances of dementia, they should marry a smart woman.

And, his claim is backed up by a recent research done at the Aberdeen University. The researchers tested the health of identical twins and the conclusions showed that a smart wife can help men lower their chances of degenerative illnesses, including dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Interestingly, studies from the past have shown that games like crossword puzzles positively stimulate the brain and thus, they can help avert dementia and Alzheimer’s. So, it is logical that smart women who engage in such intellectually-challenging games will also encourage their husbands to do the same.

But, Intelligence does not Guarantee Long & Happy Relationship

In addition to marrying an intelligent partner, you should also marry someone with whom you are compatible; i.e. you need to be able to handle challenges together and commit fully to your relationship. And, since we live in a digital age, it is important to note that judging someone on the basis of photos and their physical traits is not the best approach when choosing a person to invite to a date.

Moreover, there are other contributing factors to a lower risk of dementia. Here are the major ones:

  • Mother’s diet during pregnancy
  • Intellectual stimulation
  • Financial security
  • Job status of father during childhood
  • Higher education
  • IQ scores during childhood
  • Learning new languages
  • Career changes during mid-life

Regardless of the importance of marrying an intelligent and smart woman, what matters the most is to find a partner with whom you will build a strong, healthy, and intellectual connection which is what will keep you alive and well as you age.
