This Breastfeeding Mom Had the Best Response when She Was Asked to Cover Up

Indeed, not all heroes wear capes- some wear covers over their heads. This is at least the case with one witty mother who was told to cover up while she was breastfeeding her baby while on a vacation in Mexico.

Melanie Dudley who’s a mother of three from Austin Texas was feeding her 4-month-old baby when a stranger came near her and her entire family.

She explains that the man approached her and her family and asked her to cover up even though she’s usually very discreet and was actually sitting in the back of the restaurant.

Dudley Did Cover Up

When she was told to cover up, Dudley asked her husband to give her a cover and the woman placed it over her head and continued feeding her little one. Her husband couldn’t resist taking a photo and then their close family friend, Carol, shared it on Facebook.

She wrote under the photo: “A friend’s daughter-in-law was told to cover herself up while she was breastfeeding, so she did! I’ve never met her, but I think she’s awesome!”

She also added: “I’m so over people shaming women for nursing!”

Carol’s photo and the powerful message quickly spread and her post has now been shared more than 201,000 times. It’s really ridiculous and unbelievable that there are still people who’re bothered by seeing breasts in public!

Breaking Stigmas

Carol also clarified some things in her post in order to reduce speculation- it was a man who asked her to cover herself up, it was 90 degrees and very humid, and she wasn’t in a Muslim country disrespecting their traditions.

Shaming mothers for feeding their babies needs to be a part of the past, once and for all!
