If he were like most other young man, this successful baseball player would probably spend his first big paycheck partying out with friends.
However, for the 21-year-old Pavin Smith, first basemen and Major League Baseball’s 7th overall draft pack who signed with Arizona Diamondbacks, the $5 million bonus wasn’t spent on drinking and partying.
The young man could’ve easily bought a house or a car for himself or go out and celebrate the start of an amazing career.
However, he did a much more selfless and meaningful thing.
21-Year-Old Baseball Player Pays Off Parents’ Mortgage
Pavin decided to use a part of his money to pay off his parents’ mortgage so that they never have to worry about making a payment next month.
On Christmas Eve, the boy gave his parents a letter with a note containing words from the 1912 Home and Love poem.
He also thanked them for raising him in an awesome home with love. And, because of all the sacrifices they made to get him where he is today, he wanted their family home to be theirs.
His mother, amid tears, said that he can’t do that. Both the mother and father were overwhelmed and were struggling to finish reading the moving letter.
Despite this generous gift, Pavin claims it’s nowhere near making up for everything he’s been given.
The Story of Pavin Smith, a 21-Year-Old Successful Baseball Player
Pavin attended Palm Beach Gardens Community High School in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.
There, he played for the baseball team of the school as a first baseman and pitcher. In 2008, he had two home runs that helped him beat Mexico in the World Championship.
In 2014, the Colorado Rockies selected him in the MLB draft; however, he didn’t sign.
He decided to enroll at the Virginia University to play baseball for the Virginia Cavaliers and he distinguished himself with winning homeruns and hits.
He had a professional debut with the minor league affiliate of the Diamondbacks, the Hillsboro Hops.
Throughout his journey, his parents were there for him all the time and he decided to show them how much their immense support and love means to him. He even caught their emotional reactions on video that quickly went viral.
