The Real Life Kermit the Frog Has Been Discovered: Apparently, He Lives in Costa Rica

A newly discovered frog looks exactly like one of our favourite childhood characters-Kermit the frog and has a translucent and bright green skin.

Namely, a scientist from Minnesota discovered the frog in Costa Rica and the species definitely has a lot of resemblances with Kermit the Frog.

Dr. Brian Kubicki photographed the frog and he was more than excited to share the news about this glass frog species living in the Caribbean slopes in Costa Rica.

Glass frogs like this one are also living in parts of Central and South America and are called glass frogs because of their highly transparent skin; it’s so visible that you can see their internal organs!

With this new discovery, the total number of known glass frogs in Costa Rica is 14. Their total known number worldwide is 149 species.

The New Green Glass Frog Similar to Kermit the Frog

The frog took so long to be discovered thanks to living in a quite remote area in the tropical foothills of Costa Rica and because it has a mating call that’s just like one of insects.

Kubicki describes this call like a single tonal and long metallic whistle-like. Together with Stanley Salazar and Robert Puschendorf, he found the frog living between 400 and 800 meters in the mountains.

Kubicki, a senior scientist in the group, named the frog Janet Diane Kubicki, after his mother.

How Does the New Glass Frog Look Like?

This cute, see-through frog species is very rare and it’s the highest in transparency by now.

You can clearly see their organs. Even though this isn’t a trait of the cartoon legend Kermit the Frog, its adorable big and bright black and white eyes definitely are.
