A Converted Bus Provides Low Income Neighborhoods with Fresh Produce

Toronto, Canada has a mobile organic food market that’s bringing fresh veggies and fruits to areas where healthy and fresh food is scarce.

The on-the-go mini green market has been designed by the LGA Architectural Planners and it’s a mobile farmer’s market that’s made from an old shuttle bus.

It was donated to them by the Toronto Transit Commission.

A Mobile Food Market Providing Fresh Produce in Low Income Neighborhoods

The market is stocked with fresh produce and it allows Torontians to munch on some fresh food, even if they live away from grocery stores.

The healthy food bus has a series of shelves installed inside and they’re showing off the beautiful fresh produce.

When the market is parked, the shelves cascade outward and feature a rainbow of colors including berries, lettuce, okra, broccoli, apples, yucca and so many other goodies for Toronto’s ethnically-diverse residents.

The customers can freely check out what’s on the shelves or go inside the bus that’s set up like a miniature farmer’s market.

The shelves inside are rich in green bins of veggies and fruits, baskets of squash, and photos of happy customers purchasing fresh foods.

The Best Part of the Veggie Bus Is Its Reach

A lot of the inner suburbs of Toronto were made in the 50s assuming residents could drive up to the bigger grocery stores.

However, with the spread of the metropolis, these areas are now full of affordable homes and a lot of residents are using public transport.

Without any grocery stores in these areas, community is eating mostly unhealthy food of the local bodegas.

This is why Food Share Buses are so important-they increase the availability of healthy foods near the customer’s place of living, making a more inspiring lifestyle.

This is definitely such an amazing and beautiful idea that could definitely fit in some many other cities and parts of the world, don’t you agree?
