Woman Becomes unlikely ‘Mom’ to a Group of Wild Baby Squirrels

Photographer Dani Connor moved to a small rural village in the north of Sweden. However, although she recently moved there, she already became an important part of the local family.

She’s now the proud ‘mom’ of a group of baby squirrels that needed her in challenging moments. Connor explains that the squirrels recognize her voice and follow her in the forest.

Connor loves wildlife and has been photographing wildlife and animals for long. Now, when there’s plenty of forest surrounding her home, she can make a lot of photographs of her favorite-red squirrels.

Connor, Proud ‘Mom’ of a Group of Red Squirrels

Connor explains that she has spent a lot of time watching them. She took photos of them and is now able to tell them apart-she even gave them names.

She loves them all; however, there’s one squirrel she’s really fond of and she named her Remy. Remy, of all the squirrels, seems to enjoy being photographed the most.

And, the camera loves her too, says Connor. She explains that Remy is very confident and lovely.

The Friendship Comes to an End on this Terrible Day

Connor loved Remy and they had a lovely relationship.

Unfortunately, one day when she approached the place where Remy usually was, she found its lifeless body. She suspected that Remy was probably hit by a car. She was heartbroken.

To honor the sweet Remy who became her best friend, she laid her to rest in a bed of flowers. She also did another wonderful thing- she is taking good care of her baby squirrels.

She had to help them-while sitting in the forest and photographing the body in flowers, she waited and something small jumped in front of her.

It was a tiny squirrel. She knew this must be Remy’s baby. The baby was scared without its momma.

Connor Was Persistent & Found a Way to Help Them

After Connor asked for help from a wildlife expert, she learned that the babies are probably too young to forage on their own. This is why she was advised to leave food to ensure the babies have enough.

After she came back to the spot several hours after leaving the food, she saw the entire family. Remy had 4 sweet babies.

They were eating the food and Connor was relieved and happy. In a way, without their real mother, Connor became their carer.

She explains they’ve spent at least 100 hours together and now, when she approaches them, they’re not nervous at all.

They’re her favorite models for photography.

She has been documenting the babies’ sweet growth and the photos are indeed amazing. Let’s give kudos to this wonderful squirrel mother!
