Mom & Daughter Make History: They Opened Black-Owned Gas Station in Florida

This mother and daughter made history recently after they became the first black owners of a gas station in Florida, according to Black Business.

The mother, Lashawn Flowers who’s 51 and her daughter Shanita Vickers who’s 35, caused a major stir on social media after they became black entrepreneurs and are now proud owners of a Shell franchise.

The mother and daughter both grew up in Deerfield Beach in Florida and swam into the sea of entrepreneurship as the owners of a local nail and hair salon. They’re also owners of a local bar and nightclub.

However, this bar is currently closed because of the pandemic.

This inspired them to purchase not one, but two gas stations. And, they succeeded.

Mother & Daughter Purchase 2 Shell Gas Stations & Make History

Flowers shared they bought two Shell gas stations and how they negotiated an awesome deal.

But, despite their successful and inspiring story, the women explain that it was difficult, tedious, and time consuming. Still, it was worth it.

The process of applying for a credit and getting approval took 3 weeks; however, they still had to prove they had the capital to be able to finish the purchase.

Flowers said that she doesn’t believe in failing in anything she does and she claims that if you don’t work your business, it won’t succeed and that putting in a lot of hard work is pivotal.

Owning a Business with a Family Member Is Amazing, Says Flowers

She explains how she has immense value for her family-owned business because you can trust family.

She explains how her daughter is a wonderful mother for two and an awesome entrepreneur who’s a great partner to work with. They function so well together because they understand each other perfectly.

Their first gas station is already opened up while the second one is expected to be opened up in early 2021, probably in West Palm Beach.
