A group of puppies that were destined to become canine meat in China were saved by a US charity.
They collected 34 of these pups and flew them to New York where they will be placed with loving families.
The dogs were flown from Air China from Beijing to JFK after the No Dogs Left Behind group rescued them. The organization operates a shelter in China and they were founded back in 2016.
During this period, they’ve saved a lot of dogs and found them forever homes in the US.
Various of Dog Breeds Were Rescued from Becoming Meat in China
Shortly after they touched down, the dogs, consisted of various breeds including retrievers, poodles, corgis, dachshunds, Pomeranians, and mutts were given food, treats, and water prior to meeting their new owners.
Carly Weinstein, who waited 6 months for her new puppy, said she felt amazing and that she’s more than excited to get home. For her, this was the perfect Christmas gift.
11-year-old Auxence Goullier held their new family poodle and said how’s she’s going to love her with all her heart.
Another new owner said that holding her new rescued pup is wonderful, especially knowing what could’ve happened with it if it wasn’t rescued.
Additional 45 dogs were also scheduled to be brought and followed by 120 early next year, all thanks to the charity and its founder, the 56-year-old Jeff Beri.
The Amazing Efforts of No Dogs Left Behind
Beri explains that this was the biggest transport they’ve done by now. These dogs are his heroes and the adopters too.
He appreciates their support and waiting for almost a year now.
Unfortunately, the dog meat market in China is horrible-dead, on the plate, skinned alive, boiled, torched, and beaten to death is all real there.
For them, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a poodle a German shepherd or a mutt-they don’t care.
Since of 2017, together with his team, Beri rescued thousands of dogs and employed multiple tactics, usually when it’s dark, to save the puppies from a horrible destiny.
The organization also confronts the illegal traffickers and threatens to turn them into the Chinese authorities where they could be fined with high sums.
These fines actually exceed the meat’s cost and thus, they turn them over.
Abandonment of Dogs because of COVID Misinformation
Recently, a large number of dogs were abandoned in China after misinformation led the people to believe it’s possible to contract COVID from their pets.
They abandoned their pets and a lot of these owners actually sold the dogs to butchers, fearing police could detain them!
Beri’s efforts don’t end here-he lobbies in the Chinese government in an effort to create Animal Welfare laws. Until this happens, he explains their fight won’t stop and they’ll boycott and sanction until change is visible.
