Penguin Escapes Whales by Leaping onto a Boat with Tourists

This penguin was caught on camera trying to escape from a pod of killer whales and jumping into a boat full of tourists.

The amazing spectacle happened in the Antarctica and it was preceded by an unusual chase in which the penguin was circling around the boat and repeatedly tried to get out of the water to safety.

The scared penguin was chased by several orcas in the Gerlache Strait and the tourists witnessed all of this.

Amongst them was travel blogger Matt Karsten, 40, and his 32-year-old wife Anna.

It Was like Watching National Geographic, Said the Couple

The couple is the one who taped the amazing escape of the penguin and recalls how crazy it was to see this-it reminded of a National Geographic episode.

They said the penguin was probably very relieved to have gotten away.

The whales were pursuing the bird which managed to escape on the second leap and managed to get to safety. On the video, it can be seen that the penguin made it to the boat’s rim and the tourist helped him get inside.

The watching crowd can also be heard cheering.

The boat that now had a plus member started moving off; however, the orcas followed along. And, someone from the crowd was heard suggesting that the whales may also try and jump to the boat in pursuit of food.

The video ends with the penguin standing proudly on the boat, safe from the killer whales.

The Karstens explained that he was cruising with them for a while before he said goodbye and went back into the icy water.
