A realtor from Missouri is determined to transform her town “a city where no one sleeps outside.” She’s doing this by building tiny home villages where homeless people can live.
For nine years now, Linda Brown and her husband David have been running a drop-in shelter where people in need are able to eat, shower, and do their laundry for free.
But it was Linda’s dream to be able to offer these people more. She recalls how she watched her homeless friends walking out into the unknown darkness to some cold and wet camp while she and her husband went home to their warm beds.
This is when she knew she had to do something to change this. And she really did.
Realtor Uses Her Expertise & Donations to Build Homes for the Homeless
With her 13 years of experience in the real estate world and using funds from sponsorships, Linda together with her husband bought and transformed an abandoned mobile home property into a whole village with stunning 31 tiny homes.
Every home is long-term housing for chronically disabled homeless people.
The impressive village has a 4000-square-foot community where the residents can enjoy cookouts, do their laundry, and go to a medical office for any health issues. There, they can find student nurse volunteers and other mental health professionals who are more than glad to help.
The couple named the property Eden Village.
Residents Say the Couple Has Changed their Lives
One of Eden Village’s residents, Jordan Fisher, explains that Linda changed his life. He recalls being in the worst moments in his life and Linda was there to guide, care, and make him feel like he’s worth it.
He added how she dedicated time to learn more about him and encouraged him to rebuild his life. She even offered him a job: he’s now doing a full-time construction and maintenance work on the Eden Village.
The philosophy behind Eden Village is the one that’s behind the Housing First movement, i.e., the reason for people becoming homeless isn’t completely being addressed until their housing needs are met.
The couple doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon: they’re already working on additional villages on donated land. The Eden Village number two will have 24 residents. The third village is also in the development phase and Linda hopes that it will be able to house up to 80 residents.
Aren’t they amazing? -We’re so grateful for their effort to help the homeless!
