Teacher Reads to Her Students on a Facebook Live a Day after Her Brain Surgery

This dedicated Pennsylvania teacher had her precious students on her mind even while on her recovery journey from brain surgery.

24 hours after a tumor-removing procedure, K.D. Meucci, a fourth-grade teacher from Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Bethel Park, didn’t miss storytime with her Facebook reading group and showed up on a Facebook Live, reading to her class.

It was a lovely moment for both sides.

Loving Teacher Reads to Her Students a Day after Brain Surgery

Meucci opened up the Facebook group several years back as means for the teachers and students to meet up virtually and read bedtime stories.

She filmed the video from her hospital bed, telling her students that she didn’t forget to pack a book. She knew that she would be here on a Thursday night so she remembered to take one from the library.

She chose Mr. Walker Steps Out by Lisa Graff. This kids’ story focuses on a human-shaped figure that lives inside a traffic signal box.

Finding Our Real Value in the World & Telling People How Much They Mean to Us

Meucci didn’t just hope that her students would understand the message of the book that’s to find real value in the world, she also wanted each of them to know how much they mean to her.

In the emotional video, the teacher tells her students that she wanted to see them so that they can know that she’s doing well. She mentioned her funky look, but she wanted them to see for themselves that she’s okay.

She didn’t forget to tell them how much she loves and misses them.

Meucci said how the doctors believe that the entire tumor has been removed and it was benign.
