Heartwarming: Deputies Buy a Van for a Woman Who Walked Miles to Get to Work

Thanks to the sheriff’s deputies in Ottawa, Canada, Christine Wheeler will no longer have to walk for miles to get to work and feed her kids.

The deputies saw that she was struggling and came together to gift her with a van that she can use.

The selfless act of kindness was shared on the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. People were deeply moved by what they read.

Wheeler Had to Walk on the Cold Highway Every Day

The post explained that there were several individuals who contacted their office about a woman who was walking on the side of 59 Highway in the mornings.

Whenever the deputies responded, they saw the 24-year-old Princeton woman walking so they would give her a lift to work so she didn’t have to walk for miles in the cold weather.

One day, the deputies started discussing ways to help out Wheeler.

They started to ask for donations from residents and businesses and also used the funds from their No-Shave November campaign to purchase a van and donate it to Wheeler.

The van had two new car seats and the deputies also gifted Wheeler with a grocery store gift card, a registration of the vehicle, car insurance for a year, and an additional $200 in cash.

The surprise was captured on video and it was very emotional. Wheeler thanked the deputies as she walked happily towards the van. She fell in love with her new vehicle right away!

The Sheriff, Jeff Richards, praised his deputies who came up with this lovely idea. He said how it’s not just something they did, but rather something they are. He’s really proud of them and he emphasizes that they’re an example of how we can show commitment and serve our communities.

Wheeler loved the van and said that she can now take her kids to the park and go shopping. The donation meant the world to her. She was shocked and crying tears of joy.
