This British startup says they’ve made the first real invisibility shield that doesn’t require any power to work.
This invisibility cloak is shaped like a flat piece of cardboard and it turns anything behind it into a smudge that can’t be discerned.
The company which made it is Invisibility Shield Co and they’re now asking for funds for their invention through a Kickstarter campaign.
Until now, they’ve collected more than $88,000 although their initial goal was only $6500.
Can You Purchase this Invisibility Cloak & How Much Does It Cost?
For around $400, you can have your own invisibility shield measuring over three by two feet. Although it’s not some premium invisibility tech from the future, it’s definitely a fun demonstration of a smart optical trick.
The tech behind it is pretty simple. Namely, the shield deflects the light around the subject with a precision-engineered lens array, according to the explanation offered by the company.
The shield reflects light horizontally so that the subject behind it is entirely obscured. However, the science of this invention isn’t ideal.
This shield is unable to replicate the scene which is behind the subject, but it only recreates it as a hazy representation.
Not A Necessity, but Rather an Interesting Piece of Engineering?
These shields perform optimally against uniform backgrounds like rendered walls, grass, foliage, asphalt, sky, and sand, according to the company.
Backgrounds with horizontal lines will also work well-these can be natural features on the horizon or some man-made properties like painted lines, rails, or walls.
Despite not being a science fiction coming to life, this invisibility shield is a fun engineering product that may give you some serious advantages in your next Hide & Seek.
